Vitamin D support at ANMC

Can a person be addicted to sunshine?

I crave it!

In the winter I’ll move my indoor lounge chair around the house to wherever the sunlight is peering in, just to sit and bask in its warmth.  I’ve been pondering this concept all week. Is it healthy to crave the sunshine this much?!

A blog from Harvard Health suggests that we get the same kick out of being in the sun that we get from any addictive substance or behavior. If I’m going to be addicted to something, it may as well be something good for me! When skin is exposed to sunlight, it manufactures vitamin D. I’m sure this is not a new concept for you, but did you know all of the other benefits Vitamin D brings to our health?

Most people correlate the benefits of Vitamin D mostly to bone and immune health, but its benefits reach much more than that. It’s also involved with heart health, skin health, and brain health including sleep, cognition, and mood.

Many of our clients are feeling the effects of the reduced sunlight in our Minnesota climate, myself included. In addition to promoting our far infrared sauna with chromotherapy, we suggest Nutridyn’s Micellized D3 Liquid supplement. Micellization significantly increases the solubility, absorption, and bioavailability of vitamin D3 when compared to other forms. It’s best practice to test your levels of vitamin D regularly too. Getting the right dose for your body is key!
