The New Model of Wellcare and How It will Serve You

We are gearing up and shifting gears—Training, Training, Training. The start of 2024 is going to bring about some really awesome, crazy cool changes for us here at ANMC Holistic Health, but for all of you guys as well. And here's why: I was absolutely floored. I research a lot, I learn a lot—you know me by now, I like to study, I like to learn, I like to be on top of things, and pay attention to what the needs are. A recent Harris poll said that 73% of Americans feel that conventional medicine is failing them, that the system is failing them. Additionally, 65% said that they believe they would have better health if they had a better relationship with their practitioners.

They said that the reasons why Americans were feeling let down in medicine were because of cost, accessibility, having to drive too far, the difficulty of getting an appointment or a referral, and the waiting game. The length of time it takes to get in with somebody and the challenging referral process, as well as the general lack of a relationship with their providers, summarized why they felt the medical system was failing them. Once they did get in, they didn't feel like it met their needs, or they had already found what they needed before they were able to get in with their practitioner.

So it was really a concern and astonishing to hear that, but also very exciting because we have addressed every one of those concerns at ANMC. January just gets to address them even more. I'm so excited. We're getting very busy; we're booking out about six months. Also, that's terrible news when people need to get in and can't wait for six months. So we have developed a whole new process, a whole new conversation, a whole new model for healthcare, and I'm so excited to roll it out. I'm gonna give you kind of the basics of it. We'll definitely be talking about it more as we go on. But here's kind of the picture.

Imagine this scenario: a seat occupied by a practitioner, and a group of individuals eagerly waiting to consult with their practitioner. However, this time is constrained by both the practitioner's location and their schedule. As a result, when we eventually secure an appointment, we are compelled to take time off work, incur additional costs, and endure the challenges of travel. The limited accessibility to these services not only escalates the overall cost but also places restrictions on individuals. This situation contributes to a mindset that fosters burnout, affecting both practitioners and clients, as the current system fails to adequately serve the needs of patients.

Now, once you finally get to see the practitioner, they assess your needs and guide you to the necessary steps. However, the subsequent process involves navigating a lengthy and challenging journey to obtain a referral. Have you ever experienced the frustration of back-and-forth phone tag, finally initiating a conversation, only to find that the other party is unaware of the specific reason for the referral? This has proven to be a significant challenge, resulting in many individuals falling through the cracks.

While waiting to see the specialist they need, individuals aren't receiving the support they require. In an effort to enhance the continuum of care, it's important to acknowledge that conventional medicine excels in acute, emergency, and preventative care—areas where it should continue to play a crucial role. However, when faced with the complexities of chronic illnesses and the challenges they present, there exists another dimension of care that can seamlessly integrate into this continuum. This is where we step in.

And so instead, we're introducing more of a coach-led system that is client-focused and proactive. In this model, costs can be reduced, accessibility is vastly increased, and the ease of securing an appointment is incredible. You can get in within days or weeks rather than waiting for months or even a year.

The process begins with a screening at ANMC. To bring a new global idea into our local context, we initiate what we call Initial Consult Screenings. When you come in, you provide all the necessary data, share your story, undergo assessments, and provide any relevant information. Within days of your call, you'll have an appointment, during which the screener will gather all the required data. This information is then passed on to the practitioner, allowing you to start immediately on a plan while the entire strategy is being developed.

Next, you establish main goals for the year, working collaboratively with your coach. You're assessed throughout the whole year so that you're meeting those goals by the time you get back to your practitioner in a year, you should have made significant progress on your top three goals—whether they are related to weight, cholesterol, or blood pressure. At this point, you find yourself in a proactive and positive health stance. You have built a relationship with a care team that is dedicated to helping you be proactive, learn, strategize, and receive education to incorporate essential skills into your life. As we introduce this new model as part of our services at ANMC, there are numerous benefits awaiting you as the client.
